My sister has had a dell 537 for about a year.

under computer properties i noticed that it has a single core celeron 450 running at approx 2.2 ghz.

under display adapter i noticed that it uses onboard G41 chip set.

I am guessing that this system board has socket 775.

Is it possible to upgrade this system with an Intel core 2 processor, something like an E7400 or an E8400.

would the upgrade require upgrading the bios or other surgery. Or could we (hope, hope) just remove the old processor and install the new processor and its associated cooling fan.

thanks for reading this far.

regards

Thanks for your quick response. I should have checked the Dell board first. But I am sceptical enough to assume that they won't be of much help.

After your suggestion, I did check. They do offer the E5400 as an upgrade for the 537 desktop at $129.99 - gee thanks, but I think I will just shop around.

In the near future, I will upgrade my sisters pc with a core 2 running at approx 2.7 to 3 ghz, hopefully for well under $100.

Thanks again for your help.

Regards
