will original XP OS handle a new rapture 2nd hard drive without adding another OS to drive 2?

Yes is the right response to the question asked.

But if you are installing what appears to be a faster new hard drive, don't you want to move the OS to the new drive?

Also, many new hard drives meet or exceed the speed of the raptor and even velociraptor drives - and usually cost less.
