I've got a 3 year old AMD 939 system and I'm thinking of upgrading the MOBO to

I've got an Antec 550w SLI PS and a may get a new monitor.

This seems to be about half of building a new I5 system.

This seems like I would be able to get another couple of years out of it. I like to play games when I have time and my daughter builds graphics.

Does this seem like a good path to follow.

I would suggest this combo

And because its now an AM3 socket you need some DDR3,

And you end up coming out $5 less, or $15 less after MIR.

If you are building new right now, I think I'd spend the little extra to go ahead and go full AM3 with ddr3, that way you are more likely to have full support for different processors later, so that way you may be able to drop a faster chip in instead of doing a full upgrade. Like on mine, even though I've got an AM2 mobo, I can still update to a Phenom 2 quad or triple core.

Yep +1 on AM3/DDR3

At the same price no reason to go with an AM2+/DDR2 set up hehe
