i have windows xp on a memory stick but my computer is not letting me open the file. what program does it 'open with' ??

You installed windows on a USB device ?
1 - Your computer must be able to boot from usb.
2 - Some computers you have to press pfkey to select USB to boot from.
3 - Others set USB in boot sequence bios.
