I checked DXdiag 2day, and it says the direct x version is 11...
does that mean that my 4890 GPU supprots dx11?

sry for the rather noobish question, just want some clarification on the issue.

No. You have DX11 installed, but all 4xx0 graphics cards can only support up to dx10.1

No,HD 4890 supports DX 10.1 but in DXDiag it shows the version of DX supported by OS,for example Windows 7 shows DirectX 11 in dxdiag,Windows Vista shows 10 and XP shows 9
