All my files deleted after reformat

i brought my pc to someone who reformatted my computer and all my files are gone, he said that was a virus that was hard to remove so he reformatted my hard drive but eveything i had is gone, can i recover my files

If they reinstalled windows, there is a good chance that most of those files are over written and unrecoverable. You should be able to get some files back, but definately not all of them.

MellyMack hopefully the technician had your permission to format your hard disk. He should have made sure you had a backup... anyway, Photorec is a good free recovery tool as well but as Hawkeye22 mentioned if you have added files to the partition (ie installed windows) then it is more likely the files will not be recoverable.

Hi Guys, thank you for your replies but i was able to retrieve the majority of my "lost" files -i used R-Studio-Data-Recovery, i saved everything on a separate usb hard drive, now i know i will not bring my pc to anyone for repairs before doing my due dilligence. thanks
