How do you get toshiba laptop to recognize a new hdd

Hello.
the HDD on my toshiba satellite L675 is dead. I'm trying to replace it with an older hdd that I have form a lenovo laptop. The old hdd has win XP on it and I couldn't start the toshiba laptop with this old hdd. I tried using sata raid drivers with F6 but its not working. Any ideas olease

Old HDD with XP on it. You will not have success using on OS that was configured on a different computer's mobo & hardware by placing it in another completely different computer.

you will need to do a fresh installation of the OS when you put a new hard disk into the computer. you cannot use a windows that was loaded on another computer.
