Need your input on which card to get.

I am building an i7 860 system for gaming (FPS, RPG and flight sims) running at max resolution of 1600x1200. I am thinking about going with a GTX 285 1GB card but I am wondering it the price difference is worth it versus a GTG 275 896MB? Will I notice any difference?

I don’t tend to upgrade every time something new comes out so what do you recommend for the next 3 years? I like to stay with Nvidia and will not be doing an SLI conf. in the future.

Thanks.

if you are building a new system, and do not plan on upgrading for 3 years. At that resolution I would recommend an ATI 5870. If that is to salty for you, then a 5850. They are both hard to acquire right now because of low supply. But if you get on a nofity list or keep checking newegg, if you are in the US, you will eventually get one.

I am not sure when Nvidia is coming out with there new cards, but depending on when you build, they could be an option to. We just don't know there prices or performance yet. Or release date for that matter. I just wouldn't personally invest into the older generation cards for a new built, or if you intend not to upgrade for a while. I'd shell out $400 for a 5870 and enjoy it the next 3 years and be able to use DX11 when more games come out. Just my thoughts.

Given the choice between a 285 and 275, I would go for a 285.

I would get a ATI 5850 or 5870 card over a NVidia. I would also get an ATI 4870 or 4890 over a 275 or 285 and save a lot of money for a relatively small performance hit.
