Can someone please help me

Hello,
I am trying to run Mechwarrior 4 vengence black knight and the mercs i have xp as my os system i install the games and it seems fine until i try to run them it says it needs direct x 8 i have already installed the latest direct x i have also tried to install direct x 8 to see if that works i am still getting i really want to play these game any one have any ideas?

How does your system stack up VS minimum system requirements for the games ?
