Thanks for the great forum. Hopefully, one of you guys can help me.

My transfers over my wirelss setup is extremely slow. It took 19 minutes to transfer a 500MB File -- that's roughly 440K / sec. A lot less than 52MBPS. Whether my two computers are right next to the wireless router, or accross the house, the strength is "very good" to "excellent" and the transfer speed is roughly the same. I am not expecting to get anywhere near 52MBPS; however, I purchased my wireless g network so I can transfer large files -- 440K / sec is unacceptable.

Can you please give me some help? Here is my setup -- I have tried to setup everything to maximize speed:

1. 802.11g Wireless Router (Linksys)
2. Windows XP Computer 1 w/protocols: Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP, and File and Printer Sharing. Linsys 802.11g wireless PCI card
3. Windows 2000 Laptop w/protocols: Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP, and File and Printer Sharing, WPA Security Protocol v.2.2.0.0. NETGEAR 802.11g wireless PC Card
4. WEP Security is off
5. Mode on router and both network cards is 802.11g only (versus mixed)

I tried to limit bandwith instead of having it on auto, but that didn't help.

Can anyone help me and give suggestions? I think I should be able to get at least 10MBPS transfer speeds.

Thanks,

D

Well, for starters, leave it at auto. Don't mess with the speeds.

If you're running XP, what's the connection speed to the router at both PCs? Is is close to 52mbps, or only say 5mbps? The connection speed is dependent on range and signal clarity. If the strength is high, so should the connection speed be. Try working from there.

Are there any other wireless networks where you are?

In ancient times they had no statistics so they had to fall back on lies
