Vegas 9, AVCHD, I7 860 and 8 GB of 1600 RAM

i7 860 will run it perfectly

I use Sony Vegas 9 Platinum x64 with a Core i7 920 @ 4.4GHz (HT on) and Corsair Dominator GT 12GB PC3 16000 and I find it sometimes incredibly slow when editing HD (1080p) content (this is with two SSDs in RAID0).

Not sure if that information is useful but varying on the audio + video clips you're working with (particularly AC3 5.1 and DTS or their HD equivalents) you might experience some lag when editing.

I use Corel VideoStudio X2 Pro with my 920 at stock speeds and it edits HD lightning quick because VideoStudio uses Smart Proxy which basically creates temporary files at 800x600 (or some lower resolution) so you can edit quickly. Then when you are done it pulls the original info and creates your video using the 1080 content. They just released the X3 version which is supposed to double the speed of X2.

This is the concern I have, some people say no problem others say they find AVCHD at full res is a nightmare.

Maybe I need to wait until 20 core cpu`s come out while using 50 gb of ram..........lol

Anyone else have any input on full AVCHD (1920x1080i) editing with an I7 860 with 8gb of ram in vegas 9 platinum?

Do I need to use a dedicated graphics card or will an ATI HD5770 be ok as that is the card I was thinking of putting in my build?

i have been in contact with a guy on youtube and he has run a few tests for me.

He uses an i7 860 with 4 gb of RAM.

He has used a 17mbs AVCHD clip and copied and pasted it into the timeline to create over 4 hours of video in the timeline.

As he admits he was using Fraps to record the test but even though the cpu and memory usage never went over 50%.
