hey

i've got a ga-890xa-ud3 from gigabyte, and i've had some problems OC'ing my 1090t.

firstly the default v's is 1.45 for cpu (when set on auto) according to the bios, which sounds wrong.

also the best OC i've been able to get <1.55v's was 3.8ghz, but i've heard the 1090t should be managing 4ghz without much trouble. holding 1.55v on air wasn't worth it for the 600mhz benefit.

would it be worth my while to grab the crosshair 5?

would it help when oc'ing my 6870 aswell?

I do not think your problem is the motherboard.

I think your problem is the particular CPU you received. All CPU's are a little different. Two CPU's cut from the same area of the wafer can have different characteristics.

I also do not think it will help in OC'ing your GPU.

thanks man. i stuck with my board and bought a better fan to slot into my silent square. the temps dropped just enough to allow the 4ghz. after an hour on prime95 blend i was hitting 57 degrees.

all for less than $20.

just incase anyone comes here looking for 4ghz on this board, here's what i went with

thats 1.325 on cpu-nb for 2600mhz and 1.525 on vcore for 4ghz.

HT is stock 2k.

i've seen 1.35's on cpu-nb before but for air yes it is pretty high.

whats worse is i know i can get 2400 on 1.275 -.-

but (i read) the best performance gain for 4ghz is @2600 nb so i just have to grin and bare it.

i know if i was going to drop nb i'd drop cpu aswell since its also a hike from 3.8ghz@1.475 to 4@1.525 =X and that would crush my temps to high 40's for load.
