Hi to all,
My name is jeet. I am new to this site, just got registered though have read reviews for cards earlier from this site.
ok, i need from u all, help in terms of suggestions/opinions regarding GPU upgrade. Following are my system specs...

AMD Dual Core 2.1GHz 4000+
2GB RAM DDR2 667 MHz (1GB sticks)
15" Samsung Monitor
OnBoard GPU nVidia 6100/nForce 400
Seagate HDD 160GB

OS- Windows XP/Vista (for games, XP only)

games i am interested in playing are likes of Crysis, Crysis:Warhead, BioShock,Farcry2,Wolfenstein....
resolutions preferred/available on the monitor up till 1152x1024 , min being 800x600.
also would like to mention that i am looking for a budget card. around 100$.
i have read about HD 4770 , though a little skeptic about it being able to handle crysis at high settings at 1024x768 res.

Guys/Gals plz help.....n do reply. all suggestions are welcomed. I just can upgrade the GPU. :hello:  Thanks.

A 4770 can handle any of those games at those resolutions. So will a 4670, for a lot cheaper. Look for DDR3 4670 512mb version. At those resolutions, you would have no use for more Vram, even if the 4670 could actually utilize it. The 4670 also runs off the PCI-E slot power, and doesn't require a very strong PSU. I agree that we should know the PSU to be sure, but with your CPU, I can't imagine a stronger card being of much use in your system. I have seen the 4670 perform firsthand, and it far outshines its pricepoint.

Agreed with all of the above. Love my 4670, and it is more then enough for your syster. I am running mine with a 5000+ and it is all it needs.

I'd recommend the HD4770. The HD4670 is quite good at low resolution but it can't max out settings/AA on the more intensive games out there these days even at low resolutions. The price difference is considerable however so it's a judgment call.

+1 on the 4770 for longevity

The 4670 however is an attractive option with a weak power supply.

Hi .....
Thanks a lot guys/gals. n sorry, forgot the PSU detail. Its a standard 400watts which comes with the cabinet i think. mine is a long ATX form type.

suggestions are for HD 4670, HD 4770 , HD 5750.
which of the first two is better.
i'hv seen the 1Gb version of HD 4670 on my friends laptop. n about HD 5750 , its one of the new cards supporting DX11 if m not wrong.
is it much costlier than HD 4770 n 4670. there are two more cards 4830 4870.r these too costlier or can my sys specs support them.
I am from India. here the price of HD 4770 is Rs. 7000 to Rs. 7300.
n these games too, stalker, clear sky, call of pripyat. hmm...can hd 4770 play GTA 4 too.. :)

Any game will be playable at your resolution even with just an HD4670 but to max out the settings for most games you'll want the HD4770. The only games it may not be able to max out are Crysis and GTA IV. Crysis because it's just a very demanding game, GTA IV because it's a poorly coded. Both will be very playable however at fairly high settings, just not maxed with full AA. The HD5750 is a nice card and is DX11 but as you said it's also pretty expensive in comparison and for now it's kind of overkill for your resolution. If you have the money though then sure, why not.
The HD4830/70 are good cards but they aren't as power efficient as the others and I'd probably avoid them with your PSU.
