I have to decide between the following 2 sets for my upcoming i7 860 build.

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB

I suggest reposting your question in the memory section where an official Corsair representative is often found lurking about. He may be able to better compare the two with some specifics.

My guess is there will be little difference, if any, in actual performance. Still if would be interesting to know what the difference is.

The Dominator Heat Spreader is the difference. It was introduced about 3 years ago and IIRC it differs from the standard HS in that it is actually two heatsinks, one for the chips themselves and one for the PCB. The Dominator should remain cooler....in theory at least.
