Why doesn't the "Update Icon" go away after I downloaded the updates?

I would like to get rid of it.

It doesn't go away until
1 - The updates are installed and you click ok to acknowledge.
or
2 - The updates are installed and you restart (sometimes required).

Sounds as though your update settings are to download only, and not install automatically. Check settings in Control Panel.
