Install mixer devices for windows xp

Hi please help i have no sound on my pc had to reformat and now i get no sound said i needed to install mixer device for xp i don't know what kind of pc i have had it built for me all i know is that it is a asus p5gpl
i have tried almost everything ready to chuck it please help

-Make sure Windows Audio Service is set to Automatic & Started. (Run services.msc) Scroll down to Windows Audio Double click, start the service. And it should be set to "Automatic"
