Depends on your resolution. I don't recall the FPS, but I run on Very High with no AA and its smooth. Crysis is a bad game to base a decision off of because it is so depending.It's a good benchmark, but really is it the only game you play? If you don't get 60 FPS will you really not buy a 5850/5870 because of it?

That person is completely wrong. Your machine will run Crysis. The game is overrated anyways. I beat the single player and never picked it up again. It looks good at high settings.

Yes that guy was wrong,for playing Crysis at 1440x900 both 5850/5870 would be overkill,a HD 5770 would do the job for you

Wrong. You need a powerful videocard and a good CPU at 3.0 or faster for higher resolutions at max settings. That's it. A C2Q and even a C2D at 3.0ghz with a 4890 or GTX275 will run this overrated game at decent FPS rates-- as long as you keep it under 1650x1050. For higher rez, a 4850X2 or a GTX285 will nail it. For even higher resolutions, though, then you would need double GPU cards like the 4870x2, GTX295 or SLI/Crossfire. You don't really need an I7.

Sunny don't post many threads with one subject,you have posted 4 threads asking about whether HD 5850/5870 are good for running Crysis at 1440x900 resolution,ask it in one thread and others can help you.

i bought ati 5870 today.but i m getting only 35-40 fps on 1280*1024 with no AA/16xAF very high quality setting.do i need dedicated PSU like cooler master for this card because i ve intex 400 watts right now

yes u need a better PSU , intex 400w are crap , from that i guess u r in india . go for corsair 550VX , enough for 5870 and overclocking . if you plan to go crossfire and add another card , get 750TX .

cooler master's extreme power is not good , the real power pro is good but is only about 350 INR (7$) cheaper than corsair 550vx . i would recommend the corsair one (CMPSU 550VX ) .

The problem is that you have a slow clock for that card, you definitely need to OC that sucker... Don't worry about PSU, you are pretty safe there.

MARSOC , isnt that too less considering only 1280x1024 and no AA ? perhaps someone with a 5870 will post for comparison . i am in doubt considering that his fps are more similar to 16x10 and that too 4xAA and in frost , going by anantech's benches , there may be some other hard to find problem here , perhaps some bad setting in CCC ?

Buying an Intel i7 CPU will not really improve performance in Crysis (good game but over-rated). If you really want better performance then buy another HD 5870 for a X-Fire setup.

That would probably mean a new motherboard if your current mobo does not support X-Fire. You will definitely need a new power supply. If you're gonna go down the new mobo route, then you might as well switch over an i5 or i7 CPU if you really wanna go all out for Crysis. Depending on the cost actual components to re-vamp your PC, you're probably looking at a ballpark of $1,000 - $1,400 for the upgrade.

Whether a $1,000 - $1,400 upgrade is worth it for a $20 game is entirely up to you.

jaguarskx has a good point here , in my case i just got an i5 , but i had a pentium 4 before , really slow .

i am for the time being saving money and using a 8800gt borrowed from a friend . waiting for next gen nvidia and hopefully some drop on hd5000 to go out and buy .

and for the time being , the 8800gt is pretty ok with all other games than crysis , even far cry 2 because i use an lcd tv with 1360x768 .

i wont recommend you to get a new system from what you have now solely for crysis . but you could try overclocking that 6850 core 2 and it will be ok .

The CPU is already clocked at 3.0 Ghz and a 400 watt low brand PSU is most certainly not safe on an HD 5870.



Sunny, get the Corsair PSU. Top notch quality, efficiency, reliability and a 5 year warranty.

In order to play Crysis at 60fps constant you need minimum 5970+5870 trifire setup.
I have 5850cf system and it gives me 45-50fps with 4aa on enthusiast settings
a 5870 would give 35fps avg

Crysis is mostly a GPU limited game,so your C2D 6800(i think you mean X6800) is fine

for me playing at 1920x1200 (enthusiast) on an i7 2.66ghz and ati 5870 i got an average of 30 fps. and oc'ing my cpu to 3.6ghz didn't make any difference.

so i think at your resolution you should do just fine. btw if you wont a buy a new cpu then i suggest you buy the 5850.

if you really want to get 60fps smooth with crysis , tone down the settings . or get another 5870 and CF them but then u would also need another psu . again , it will not be worth it with so many other games offering great fps gameplay .

crysis , with by far having the best graphics , is still too costly to get at 60fps with max settings , for most people . so what do you finally think sunny ?

get a bigger lcd , you will enjoy that much moe than 19'' .
