Hello,
My hard drive recently stopped working after my laptop took a fall. I replaced the hd with a new one and re-installed the os (win7) So my laptop is up and running again. Here's the hard part, I used a usb to sata converter for my old hard drive to pull the data off, I've recovered a good portion of the files now how do I put it in use on my laptop with the new hd? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Raheema, welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

What you need is an external enclosure for a 2.5" HDD. Here is the link for one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Others here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

Pick one for 2.5" SATA hard disk - USB and eSATA.
After you get the external enclosure, assemble the old hard disk inside the enclosure, and save the files that you want. After that format it and use it as an external USB hard drive.

Thank you so much for your help!! I've gotten the files that I was able to get off the hard drive and saved then in a folder on my laptop. (the hd was damaged so it may not be usable as an external unfortunately) But I have NO idea how to regain use of my settings, documents, pics or music...I'm a fairly intelligent person but copy past didn't seem to work lol. How do I use these files to recover my pics, documents, and music, some folders I open up are empty so I'm not even sure if the data I pulled from the old hd was usuable :(  Again, thank you so much for your help and any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

"Recuva" is a free data recovery program. Try it, it works well.
