i dont know if this is how the card preforms or not, but it runs crysis warhead on full with about 20 fps while running at 1440x900 resolution. its kinda slow for a 300 graphics card. please tell me if its the graphics card or if it is anything else im running with.

this is my system

please tell me what is wrong. i payed 300 bucks for this and im not getting very good fps. its very choppy on crysis too. i have a 750 watt power supply. My temps are never over 45c. I have correct drivers. when i play on full i use AAx8. im running on windows 7 64 bit

how should i test and see if my 5850 is defective or it isnt performing as well as it should due to the the hardware of the card?

heres my gpu benchmarks at 1280x1024. i think idk thats what the setting was for resolution for 3dmark vantage.

Did you have the latest drivers? Use drive sweeper to clean out any Nvidia driver?

Monitor the temperatures? Benchmark the GPU to see if you're getting the performance of a 5850?

What is your PSU?

You should be maxing out Crysis Warhead on VH at that resolution and getting over 40fps on average.

What OS you running? I had horrible performance on windows vista 64, like 2/3 of the performance everyone else was getting. When i put windows 7 on, it was as high as everyone else though.

why don't you try turning AA down to X4 instead of X8? On your benchmarks it says GPU core is 157mhz and your ram frequency is 300mhz? Isn't that a bit low? mine is 575mhz and 900mhz for gpu and ram.

mate you are somewhat misinformed

THERE IS NO CARD ON THE PLANET that can run Crysis on VERY HIGH + 8xAA over 40fps on that resolution - (EXCEPT may be the 5970)

I have the 5850 also and I can tell you that its the best video card for the money currently on the market.

on VERY HIGH I get about 25-35 fps with 2xAA on 1680x1050

You should get smooth gameplay at 4xAA on 1440x900 - may be around 30 fps

It also depends a LOT on your cpu but yours is ok

You can do following - lower the AA to 4x. 8x is just too high on that game and I can bet money you cant see the difference

Lower AF to 8x - it will give you 2-3 fps more and you wont notice difference also.

With these settings at Win7 64 bit you should be getting over 30 fps , with may be very rare drops under. This will be smooth gameplay.

If you cant reach that then its something wrong with your drivers, installation etc
You can try total uninstall of all ATI drivers and then use Driver Sweeper from SafeMode

Turn your anti-aliasing down to 2x or 4x -- you paid $300 for a card that can run everything but Crysis on the absolute maximum settings (you're really not open to turn them down at all?); It's really not that horrible of a deal. Turn them down to "Gamer" and use 4x anti-aliasing and I doubt there'll be a problem.

+1 for all suggestions . i considered to get a 5850 just to max out crysis on 1360x768 LCD with AA , but then got a 5770 and for this low res , all other games run fine on full settings and AA including far cry 2 .
