I'm going to buy a new hard drive for a new OS installation, and I'd like to know what the most reliable, well performing drive is, for the best price. I'm thinking about a 1 Terabyte drive because I'll probably install Windows 7, XP, and possibly try to build a Hackintosh too. So I'll probably make 3 partitions, or 4 since Windows 7 requires an extra partition for the bootmgr or whatever.

Also, I'm looking for storage drive recommendations. I bought a Samsung HD240UI quite awhile ago and it's performed well so far.

Let me know what you think, thanks!

There is no overall winner in the 1TB segment. These 3 trade wins in all the benchies (Seagate 7200.12, WD Black and Spinpoint 3). Pick the one that works best in your apps.

If temperature and / or noise are primary concerns, then the Seagate 7200.12 would be the clear choice.

Thanks. It seems like the Samsung got a higher positive to negative review ratio so I'm inclined to go with that one. I did buy a 1.5 TB Samsung a long time ago that has bad sectors on it though. But the 2TB Samsung I bought to replace it has been working fine for awhile like I said.
