GPU Debate 128 dx11 vs 256 dx10

So im building a new computer and i dont wanna drop 400 dollars on a 256 bit dx 11 GPU.

Im debating on getting a 128 bit bus dx 11 GPU

or

Getting it because theres a combo with PSU's

OR

If i should get a 256 bit bus dx 10 GPU

What should I do? I want to be prepared for future dx 11 games, but I know that technology will always be advancing and I would hate to have to upgrade constantly.

Current Build:
-AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core Processor Model HDZ965FBGIBOX - Retail
-4 Gigs G.SKill
-Debating on FX vs GX D: if you wanna help me decide on that too that'd be great, but its not the focus of this thread

  1. get an 790x board
  2. It's a judgment call. The HD4890 is better but it also uses a ton more power/runs hotter and isn't DX11. Keep in mind if you get the HD5770 you could always crossfire later on, assuming you buy a crossfire motherboard.
    What resolution are you using?
  3. 22 inch monitor hmm 1680 x 1050.
    //

why the 790x instead of the 790fx / gx?

    I DO plan to OC.

Oh and theres a combo on tower & MOBO.

the 790fx and the 790gx. So one of these.
  4. make sure 965 is 125w
  5. the 965 is 140 w
  6. If your resolution was higher it would be a tough call but the HD5770 should be great at that resolution so there's no reason to consider the HD4890 unless you find some kind of great deal.

    true. thanks everyone.

although this came to mind. if i plan for dx 11 - 256 bit bus, prices are gonna drop when they are more in demand (when more games demand dx11 and they mass produce those GPU's) and my dx 11 - 128 bit bus (the hd5770) will be obsolete (sorta). I could crossfire, but it'd be more money being dropped.

I am kind of leaning towards the HD5770 just because theres a combo deal with the PSU. :)

any final thoughts? When is dx11 suppose to arrive? 2010? 2011?

    DX11 is already here.
  8. Which HD5770? Whats the major difference between the two HD 5770?

    any final thoughts?
  9. What would you get instead of the HD5770 anyway?
Keep in mind the card uses DDR5 ram which helps mitigate the limitations of the 128-bit bus.
  10. I believe the only variation among different HD5770s at this point is the fan/heatsink
  11. get a mobo that can do dual x16 and a 5770 :

    XFX HD-577A-ZHFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150457&cm_re=5770-_-14-150-457-_-Product

    or

SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102858&cm_re=5770-_-14-102-858-_-Product

later on you can add a second one if needed .....
  12. other than the hd5770. at this point. i might not have to buy a MOBO / PSU becaues my friend bought extra's.. so my whole build is going to change again. not drastically. thanks again guys.
  13. get a 5850 and you wont be sorry :)
  14. get a 790fx mobo . like msi gd70 .
