You can get a basic system with enough juice to play today's game on high and the next gen on lowered detail.

I'm thinking a budget-friendly AMD quad core, an ATI 4890, a decent case and PSU, a Samsung HDD, a decent motherboard, a not to expensive 21-22" monitor and peripherals.

So you can get a good quality PC, but a dream machine? No way...

Heey he obviously need help on what to buy with $1000 of his :) some of us have budget you know :(

My build cost nearly $1000, (top to bottom) it does what I need it to do, but it is a long, long, looonnnnngggggggggggggg ways from what I would consider a "dream build".
I would need to budget about $3's to really make what I would call "my dream build". Some of you would probably need more than that.

If i only hade 1K this would be my dream build :)

thinking about it some more i would do this

Drop to a 20 " Monitor it will help a bit with FPS in games and up the GPU to a 955, With the changes it will add 26 bucks past your 1K but you get 35 in MIR

I believe the question was if you were limited to $1,000.00, what would be the ultimate PC you could build for that budget.

You always got to have a budget or people would build a 50,000$ pc.

Pretty nice rig there. I myself am torn. At this budget I think an i7 is out of the question, specially since we need keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor. So it would really come down to the i5 or a Phenom II. Not sure which way I would go actually. Probably i5 because DDR3 ram, vs DDR2 of Phenom II.

Radeon graphic cards aren't really my thing. I can never pick out good ones with them. I'm more of a geforce kind of guy.

You could get a i5 750 setup for 83 more then that AM# build with the same setup so 1083

If you live by a mircocenter you can save 50 off the CPU

Should make your own post tho :)

nods nice build BTW

Its hard to nail it down when your adding in KB MOUSE SPEEKER ect because you can get some ipod speekers for 7 bucks or some for 400 bucks

Its not hard to make an i5 with everything for $1000 as long as you stick with a microATX motherboard (no xli/crossfire), a 5770, a 1680x1050 monitor and cheap logitech mouse, keyboard and headset.
