Yes i know that the i5 vs 955 have been going on and that there's tons of post with it.
Ok, i'm looking at getting a new PC at some point for gaming, so i ended with either the I5-750 or the Phenom II x4 955. What i can see they both performs pretty well and the only difference on benchmarking tend to be rather small. So this question is more about the Mobo i'm going to use.
These are the things i'm looking at it must or partially have:
1. micro atx (limited to that due to the case)
2. good quality
3. can handle up to around 3.8-4.0GHz OC
4. sli/Cfire are not required
5. (optional) USB 3 for future proofing it a bit
For the i5-750, i've found the ASUS Maximus III GENE, seems to be great and all, but does not have USB 3. There are some m-atx for the i5 with USB 3, but those are with H55/H57 so i'm a bit curious to know how good they are regarding OC.
Then there's the Phenom II x4 955 with a MSI 890GXM-G65. Asus seems also to have some, with pretty much the same specs, but those are with the 880G chipset.
I would get the X4 955 + MSI 890GXM-G65.
MSI have improved their mobo quality and are fast catching up with ASUS and Gigabyte...
And also the price difference is very less between the 880 and the 890 boards...and the 890GX has better chipset and VRM cooling...this should help in overclock...
