New Computer for $300

Im looking to replace 4 parts of my computer, they are way out dated.

CPU is a old P4 at 2.4ghz OC to 2.6ghz
GPU is a x1650 AGP 8x 512mb thats at 128bit.. ya i know

i want to get a new CPU, MB, GPU and RAM for $300 that can max or at least get 30+ fps in 25man raids in wow, i get 1-2 fps now. play Stalker CS at more than 5-10 fps on low (what i get now), play CoD 6 MW 2 at more than 10 fps (what i get now)

im looking at getting the parts this week or next week. I want to just play Games and watch movies, i have other computers that do the rest.

PSU, Case, Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor, HDD, CD/DVD drive, Fans, Speakers, well anything but the 4 parts below.

Comes to $314.54, somewhat over but its $15

now my PSU is a 500w and only has 28a on the 12v, i am only going to have 2 HDD and 2 case fans, no CD/DVD or anything else like that, will that PSU be enough? if it is not, i can take out a HDD so i only have one if that makes a dif.


I just want to play new games more than 10 fps, prefer 20-30 at med or max settings at 1024x768

When you replace your mobo you have to reinstall the OS aswell. If you have a Dell, emachines ect, since it is OEM, you wont be able to use it more than 30 days(grace period) since the key for it is tied you your old mobo. You will have to drop $100 on a new os.

In addition to the parts you picked, you need a 400W power supply. You usually cant get a decent psu for under $50. Even a low end graphics card uses as much power as 4-5 hard drives, good graphics cards are more like 10 times.

This is the best deal on a good PSU I have seen (Antec Earthwatts 380- $30 after MIR)

Unfortunately I dont think the objectives you want to achieve will be practical with your budget. Simply getting a better AGP graphics card like a 4670 or 4650 and a PSU is probably a much better solution for now.

Then you can use the power supply when you replace everything else later.

i have a 500w PSU its still kinda new, i read that the GPU runs on a 400w with 26a on the 12v, wont mine be enough? and i wont have to buy windows 7 again just cause im getting 4 new parts will i?

its not just the GPU i need to replace, im CPU limited to really low FPS in alot of games. the new GTA game needs a Dual core, Assassin's Creed needs a dual core, Prototype needs a Dual core i want to play them but cant atm.

Yes that 4770 should run pretty high. Bad PSU brand, don't be mad if your processor fries.

i have a old 500w 24a PSU that cost like $150 when i got it Years and Years ago, should i use that?

how are those? its a microATX but that shouldn't be a problem will it?

Nope good to go mid towers have standoffs for ATX as well as mATX mobos to mount on em ^^ Hmm actually i would get a single 2GB stick RAM and keep a DIMM slot free in case u need more next time

ya its cheap but i have pc3200 atm and it will be a upgrade so im happy if it will work.

i also have a full tower case

Just a small update, got all the parts and its working GREAT! anything over 20 fps is a gift from god, playing games for 5 years at 10-15 fps does that to ya...

every game i throw at it i can max and never go below 30 fps, WoW, steady 45fps in 25man raids

STALKER Clear Sky, 34-50 fps all the time

Fallout 3 never drops below 53

Assassin's creed never goes below 32

Prototype never goes below 57 LoL

dead space is god like, my old card was 5-10 fps max, now i can max all the gfx and get 47 fps all the time

Borderlands....just wow... min 42 fps all the time
