This is my first build..

What power supply would you recommend to run x2 5970's in crossfire?

I'll be posting the rig parts shortly without a power supply, because I am not sure what I would need to run 2 5970's(I know you need 1000 watt or higher psu, since psu's are the most important part of the build.)

Overclocked, each one will soak up about 400W EACH. The chipset is looking at over 250W if you overclock.

If you actually do construct such a thing, you're looking at 1200W+, enough noise to match your microwave, and an electric bill of a small city. Plan on sticking this monster on its own dedicate circuit too btw...

When we move to dual 5970 then we see a power drain over 600watts and although a 650watt PSU could in theory handle this load there are not many in this power range with 2x6 pin and 2x8 pin connectors, so I would recommend you move to a 850w+ at least, or even higher for more futureproofing.
