Which should i get? the gtx 285 2GB or 295

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a new graphics card for chirstmas, but am unsure of which card to get.

At first i thought the gtx 295, but as i will be playing games at 1920x1200 and with as much AA as possible i thought perhaps the 2GB 285 might be a better choice? The 285 is cheaper but not by much.

2gb cards dont really give you much, if any performance boost for most games except like GTA. For your price I'd rather pick up a 5870, which'll outperform the 285 and come really really close to the 295.

Neither one, they are all extremely overpriced... Get either a 5850 or 5870.

your right the 5970 is better...i'll maybe get that, i'm sure i can rustle up a bit of cash, and my motherboard supports either ATI or Nvidia.

I guess i just get one from the reputable brand and there isn't really much difference from card to card?

Wouldn't mind overclocking it eventually, are there any brands reknown for good overclockers?

Yep.
5850 is cheaper than the GTX285, but runs better in terms of performance, runs cooler, uses less power, and supports dx11.

5870 is much cheaper than the GTX295, but runs about the same in terms of performance, runs cooler, uses less power, and supports dx11.

or perhaps go cheaper with the other two ATI. Something to think on... i always assumed Nvidia were to top dog, but if the 5870 is just as good as the 295 maybe i'll get that instead.

Nvidia is the wrong move until GTX 300 series are released, or unless you are stuck with a SLI board.

If you can afford it, i recomend buying the 285. That is high end gaming

you dont know what you are talking about. 5850 is better then gtx285 and has dx11 suport and cost less. 5870 on the other hand is significantly faster then gtx285
5970 is king of the hill atm and beat everything apart

dont buy nvidia now they are just not competitive...
