$700+ Gaming PC, need advice

Forum Systems : New Build $700+ Gaming PC, need advice

Word :    Username :

This is my first build, i did a lot of research on each part and how to choose them :D, but i need some advice and opinion.
I'm building it to play games of course, and i want it to last *forever*, I probably won't plan on making a second build but i will upgrade when the parts are cheaper. Hopefully i can buy it this year, otherwise it'll be early 2010.

So right now approximate cost is going to be nearly $800 (excluding mouse and monitor, already chosen and I already have some speakers and a keyboard).

So, what do you people think? Is this build plausible? Is there anything i can do without and replace for something cheaper?

BTW, does the hard drive matter much? I don't plan on filling it anyways. And is it possible to use any optical drive, i have one laying around somewhere...

Also, just a random question, but what is the purpose of a DPI adjusting button on the mouse? I don't get it.

Sorry for all the questions! Thanks everyone.

Looks like a freak of nature config - ddr3 with AM3/I5/I7 not dead end LGA 775 platform @@ Counter proposal:

Hmm... I didn't study up on AMD when i was making my build... but the GPU is certainly better and the build is cheaper... I just might have to go with yours. But do you think i could change the case for the one i have?

I'll wait for more opinions though :P

Reply to monkeyrench

Hmm... I don't know where you found those items but i don't think i can do it because the ones i found are more expensive.
BTW i have to use newegg.CA

Reply to monkeyrench

Those are off Egg USA ^^

That Raidmax has 2 x 80 and 1 x 120 for cooling and thats just a tad short of what i like for a gaming rig - perhaps you might want to look at the Antec 300 Illusion as well

Reply to batuchka

Try this one on for size - prices and links are to Egg USA also as I was off working on it before you listed CA preference. Oh how I wish people would follow the model for listing data and then we would not have this problem.

Sorry for not listing site preference, thought my links were enough of a hint :(
Also, i see what you mean with the cooling fans on the case, guess i should also look more into cases too.

OKAY! SO...
I changed my motherboard into
MSI 770-C45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6813130228

and have to change my CPU. Also, would 4GB of ram be sufficient, so i can save a little bit of money there.

Thanks for help so far

Reply to monkeyrench

4 GB is definitely plenty for now - and you can always add later - in a year or two, if you have to - as long as you have open RAM slots.

Is this build any good? Any changes to be made? No counter offer right now, Ill be back tomorrow!

Hmm why not go with the good old Earthwatts 80+ certified line for PSU?

Reply to batuchka

???
For only $25 more you can move from the puny quad core 925 at 2.8GHz to the cuad core 955 Black Edition (unlocked) at 3.2 GHz. That seems like a no brainer to me.
[Edit - corrected to show 925 is quad core - thanks batuchka]
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6819103674

And the 500w PSU I listed is a better PSU and cost $30 less AR - there is the money to pay for the faster PSU

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produ [...] 6817341016

And here is a much better HD - same price, faster, 500 GB compared to 320 GB and 16MB cache compared to only 8MB on the WE.
