VRAM

HI, RECENTLY I BOUGHT DELL LAPTOP WITH FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION
DELL STUDIO 1555, C2D, 2.2GHZ T6600, 4MB RAM, 320GB, 2MP CAM, ATI 4750 WITH 512MB DEDICATED MEMORY.

BUT WHEN I CHECKED ADOPTER INFORMATION I FOUND AS FOLLOWS
CHIP TYPE: ATI RADEON GRAPHICS PROCESSOR (0X9553)
DAC TYPE: INTERNAL DAC (400MHZ)
MEMORY SIZE: 1024 MB
ADOPTER STRING: ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4570.
BIOS INFO: BR 32787-001

TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE I UNDERSTAND THAT ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4570. GOT MAXIMUM DEDECATED VRAM AS 512MB.
BUT I COULD NOT ABLE TO MAKE OUT WHAT IS THIS 1024 MB SHOWING IN ADOPTER INFORMATION?
IS THIS IS SHARED MEMORY? IF SO THEN WHAT IS ON BOARD MEMORY? PLEASE ADVICE ME AND CLARIFY MY DOUBT.
THANKS

  1. Hey aa,

Please turn your caps lock off.

On to the point, 1024MB is your dedicated memory plus your shared memory (which appears to allocate 100% of regular video memory). Onboard memory, in speaking in reference to your GPU, would be 512MB, and speaking in reference to your computer as a whole, would be 4GB.
