I just updated my system and my Windows 7 numbers are really weird.

I went from an old pentium 4 cpu (score 3.7) to an i7-920 and my score is now 3.5

My gpu score went down from 5.3 to 5.2 and I have the same gpu in there. Gaming score went down .1 points as well.

My build is:

i7-920
MSI x58 pro-e
6gb Corsair ddr3 1600
6600gt gpu
650w corsair psu
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (changing to 64-bit right now)

I don't plan on overclocking, but I'm finding it really odd that my cpu score went down when it's suck a big leap up in processors. Any thoughts or opinions?

1 of the problems i have heard with the Windows rating system is that when the system rates your hardware, it doesn't bring the hardware out of idle.

Scene most hardware today have power saving feature like intel cpu's have speed step and that can lower the speed from 1.2 ghz to 0.8 GHz.

This will probably explain the lower score. Overall, dont worry about it. the core i7 is many, many times better than the p4.

I do not think there is anything wrong with your cpu. I just think that Windows Experience Index has some bugs in it. I had similar problem. I got my HD5970 and installed it with 9.12 drivers and got 7.7 score then after some time a ran the Windows Experience Index again and the score dropped to 6.0 wierd hmmm. I then installed 10.1 drivers and it went back to 7.7. I just recently installed fresh win 7 again on my pc and installed drivers 10.1 and it still has a score of 6.0. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Also my Hard Drive score went from 6.9 to 6.8.

That's cool. I was just worrying because almost all scores I see (including those not overclocked) tend to be at least 7. Just got finished installing x64 and numbers changed again.

CPU stayed the same. RAM went from 7.2 to 6.2. My GPU went back up to 5.3.

This scoring system is so weird. Would I get a better idea of performance if I ran cpumark?

I would not worry about it. Your i7 920 is way faster then the P4. The only thing i see that ur video card is the bottleneck in your system. If you r not a hardcore gamer then 6600gt will do just fine. Yes cpumark would be a good place to start.
