Another 'Suggest a Video Card' Thread

Hi all,

I'm hopefully building a new comp in the near future and need some help on how powerful of a video card I need.

I'm not a gamer, but still would like to be able to play a few games if the urge comes up. I would mostly play racing or FPS games if that helps.

My budget for the card is ~$150 if it needs to be that high.

I think I'd like DX11 support unless people think there's no real use for it.

What I'm deciding between are:

HD5750
HD5770
HD4870
HD4770
GTX260
GTS250

My goal is also quiet, cool, and efficient operation.

Other parts would be:

Phenom II 965 on a MSI 790FX
or
Core i5 on a MSI GD80
with a 650watt Corsair
and 4gigs of Ripjaw ram

HD5750/70 are energy efficient therefore quiet.

Your best bet is an HD5770.

5770 and phenom ii 955 instead of 965 with that MSI 790FX.

a 4870 will penform a little better but if you want dx11...


also buy a good psu so you can crossfire later on.

Yeah, I'm sure it will be between 5750 or 5770.

Will 5750 be enough or is the 5770 that much of a better buy??

The HD 5770 will give you at least a 10% performance increase over the HD 5750, depending on the game @ 1920 x 1200. Resident Evil 5 is more like 20% performance boost.

I would prefer a HD 5770 because many (not all) exhaust hot air out the rear of the card.
