Need help for choosing a motherboard.

I'm looking for a micro-ATX motherboard. I do intend to do gaming but various amount of stuff that a computer science undergraduate would do in college. It comes down to p55 vs x58 or an amd board. Should I wait in the summer and get only SATA III mobos? Such as the Asus Rampage III Gene.... although probably half the features I don't even use lol! But you get the gist. Would appreciate any advice!
