Hello,I bought an Vantec _ NexTtar Hard Drive Dock.
The Driver is included -- but for Win 98 ONLY!
I went through WinXP - Control Panel - Install NEW Hardware, it does NOT WORK!
I went through Vantec Tech - NO SUPPORT.
Vantec has EXCELLENT PRODUCT [ CONCEPT ], but BAD [ USER ENGINEERING ].
People will LOST their FAITH with [ Vantec ] most QUICKLY.
Please forward this to [ Vantec ]:
[ SUCCESS based on LITTLE THING / LITTLE CONSIDERATION ]
Looking FORWARD for your REPLY (if you DO)
You need to edit your original post to remove your e-mail address. Second, are you sure that the hard drive you placed in the Vantev Nexstar Dock actually works? Is your external power connected properly? Did you power on the device? Did you swap the USB cable?
BTW, XP (and up) do not require any special drivers to work with this device.
I have a vantec nexstar3 and they work fine. You do not need a driver. If this is a new drive, you need to go into disk management and initialize the drive before it will show up in "my computer"/windows. This is typical of any new drive and is not the fault of the nexstar enclosure.
I have a VanTec dock and it doesn't require any drivers. The driver that's included is for ancient operating systems that don't have native USB support - it's a USB driver, not a VanTec dock driver. If your OS supports USB (and Windows XP certainly does) then it will work fine with a VanTec dock.
