ok... so i went into the UEFI setup and changed the preset to 4.2ghz. I saved and exited but when windows loads, every test i run still shows 3.3 ghz as the CPU speed. Computer properties shows 3.3, Speedfan shows 3.3, Coretemp shows 3.3.

what am i doing wrong?

thx

Solution
whats it say in cpu-z?
mine shows 3300mhz in like, the cpu gadget i have installed, and 4500mhz in cpu-z.
obviously i trust cpu-z more than a gadget.

You won't see the OC unless the CPU is under load.

Also, when you say preset, did you change the multiplier to 42 or did you change the turbo state to 42? If you change the multiplier to 42 and turn off power saving features you should see your OC at all times as this will prevent the power saving features from throttling down the CPU to save juice.

That is perfectly normal, what do you want to happen?

If you're after 4.2 to run constantly out in the operating system you need educate yourself, on how to take further overclocking steps, as already suggested to you by amuffin.

i read throught that article but it was more manual. my question is i guess where do i see that i've overclocked correctly? i mean in the bios it says 4200 but in windows all programs show 3300. so how can i see it at 4200? i guess it will throttle up to 4200 when under load only, correct?

Yes... confirmed twice. CPU Z confirms my core speed at 4190 and I ran prime95 with real temp and both showed the ramp up to 4190... just what i was looking for. THanks.

For now i think the default is good enough for me while i read more and learn how to manually OC.
