Need advice on what setup is best.

Hey guys just need a few tech savvy opinions on which setup is best over all for performance and price.

Setup 1.

Price: $1042 AU

Motherboard: Gigabyte EP45-UD3
CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 2.8G
RAM: 8 GB DDR2 1066 Mhz
Hard Drive: 1 TB
Video Card: nVidia 1GB 9500GT

OR

Setup 2.

Price: $1017 AU

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD3
CPU: Intel Core I7 860 Quad 2.80G
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz
Hard Drive: 800GB
Video Card: nVidia 1GB 9400GT

I also would like to know which setup would be faster when video editing or gaming?

Something tells me I should buy setup 2 strictly because of the i7's power and the fact that ddr2 is getting gradually replaced/out phased by ddr3 memory. I wish to overclock my CPU to get max performance. Does/will this affect either CPU unit?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Setup 2 will be far superior for video editing while both will be door stops for anything above 1280 x1024 for gaming lol Get a real GPU like HD 4770/GTS 250 minimum and you could some more serious gaming hehe

Thanks yeah I'm buying this as sort of a package. I look to upgrade my video card quicksmart once i get some cash. Thanks alot though.

Well the thing about packages is: they will cut corners for the hardware in order to earn a fatter profit so double check what case and PSU is bundled as these are the easiest ways shops pull a fast one on unsuspecting buyers lol

I'm not really sure what power supply I'll need, but it says in the item description that it has an optional 420 W power supply. Would that be sufficient?

Go with an 80 plus certified PSU with active PFC from Corsair/Antec/OCZ/Seasonic

Thanks for the help man! I just read m product description and it comes with a 680 W power supply. So it should be all good.

One last question and I swear I'll stop bothering you haha. I have a choice of either a: Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R or ASUS P6T SE motherboard. Which one is better? Because I really can't tell the difference. The help is greatly appreciated!

You have to study features vs your needs at your price point when judging which mobo is for you ^^
