I have recently purchased a Synology DS411j with 4 bays and would like your advice on the compatibility of 3TB HDs for installation with Raid 5. I have checked with WD support and they recommend only enterprise edition but currently they do not produce 3TB size, whereas synology support claimed otherwise that WD30EZRS & WD30EZRX is compatible.

I using the DS411j for central storage & backup for a Home Media for data, music, videos, pictures, etc.

I wouldn't use any non-enterprise edition hdd from WD in any RAID setup.

Learn it the hard way last year. Order 20x 1TB and everyone of them fail one after another within weeks. Ran all kind of tests drives were all ok.

Turn out WD turns off the TLER from all non-enterprise drives and selling the RE edition(with TLER) for higher price.

Also, right now might not be a good time since the price has been up everyday. The 2TB WD Black RE already went up from 200 to 300 in a week.
