APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: within a month

BUDGET RANGE: (e.g.: $1000-1500)

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, surfing the internet, watching movies

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: (e.g.: keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS)

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg

PARTS PREFERENCES: Looking at i5-750 or i7-920. Graphics card(s) I was considering 2x4890, but now I am leaning towards 5850 so i have potential upgrade in the future for a second card.

I'm thinking about getting a SSD for gaming purposes, but I'm not sure if it is worth the money. Anyway this is my first build since I built my last computer 7 years ago, so trying to learn and figure out what is the best for my money. If I gain a lot of performance by spending a little more i'd happily go over the limit a bit, if I am spending lots on small performance upgrades i'd rather not....if that makes any sense.

Any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks

If you aren't content with that Hyper 212, I know that CoolerMaster will sell you a Socket 1156 bracket (I bought one!) so you can use all of their coolers with an 1156 board. Other than that, you're building a similar system to the one I have now... and so far I'm happy with it. Part of me wishes I'd have gone down the 1366 path, but who knows... I may have never upgraded to a newer processor on that board and the added expense would have been wasted.

The 900/902 is fine for a single GFX card setup, but the PSU is oversized. Best choice would be an Antec SG-650 ... the Corsair HX is an even match for it electronically but the Antec is quieter and the cables are better matched to the case.

The Prolimatech Megahalems generally get top performance rankings in most reviews and is the easiest HS to install by far.

For memory, use the drop downs on newegg from

Computer Hardware / memory / desktop memory / 240 pin DDR3 / DDR31600 / 4 GB (2 x 2GB)

Hit CAS 7 next and sort by price....lowest one at correct voltage is your pick. If CAS 7 beyond ya budget, move to CAS8

What about an optical drive? Also, make sure you get the Antec 902 not 900. It's worth the little extra money. I'm personally going with a HAF 922 which is 60 after rebate right now, but I was going to go with the 902
