How to retrieve the samba file data from unusable IB NAS 3221?

How to retrieve the samba file data from unusable IB NAS 3221?

Please help...
The IB NAS 3221 Unit has stopped working after much use over the past 2-3 years.
As usual I turned it off using the power button located on the front panel at night.
The next morning I tried to turn it on and nothing.

Well not strictly true there were vague signs of life : A BEEP and the display LCD flashes blue quickly but the IB NAS 3221 unit is now unable to be networked.

So the main question is:
How do I retrieve the data that was being stored in RAID1 mirror on the Samba File System?
All the computers on our local network run a variety of Windows OS: XP (32) / Vista (64) / 7 (64).

Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

  1. I carried on the search and have answered my own question.
I found a very little program that can be quickly installed into Windows:

    Ext2Fsd Project
Open source ext3/4 file system driver for Windows (2K/XP/VISTA/WIN7)

Make sure you read the notes.
    Attach HDD via USB
Open Ext2 Volume Manager / Service Management
    Enable Ext3
    Start Service Status

Now you should be able to read your Linux/Samba HDD under windows.
