Cannot rename or delete any files in xp

Hi after upgrading avast from verson 6 to 7, I am now unable to rename or delete any files on the machine. Avast has scanned the system and reports that there are no problems. Anyone any ideas. I have opened a request with Avast but no reply has been given. Colin.

try uninstalling avast altogether and see if the problem is resolved.

You need a special utility just to uninstall avast? hah no wonder why all the techs I work with call it Aghast.
