Use old OS Drive in new computer

I have an old slow computer & motherboard. If I buy a new Dell machine, can I simply replace the Dell's C: drive with the C: drive from my older machine?

  1. If you like to have a new slow PC sure J/K, Its best to back up your files and transfer them over to the new PC.
  2. No you can't without some luck and or experience. The OS has chipset drivers loaded and Dell is known to change their chipsets very often. In some cases, with a set of drivers handy, you can get it to boot or boot to safe mode and then load the drivers and get it working. In other cases... well.. it goes poorly. Make a copy of your drive before you begin anything if you want to be safe.
