I received my replacement today and tested it out in my new Cooler master HAF 932 case. The HD 4870 is idling at 58celsius at the core. In comparison my GTX 260 (216 shader superclock) Idles at 32 celsius. That's 26 celsius difference.

Anyone here have a Air cooled system running 4870 that is getting lower temps than 58c idle? I'm disappointed with this card and am contemplating returning it for good and sticking with the GTX 260. I bought a whole new case just to drop the temperature and it still idles at 58c.

The HD 4870 is indeed a hot card.

That chart looks about right for my XFX 4870 1 gig.
I also have the Nvidia GTX 260 (216shader) superclocked 55nm edition. I idle at 33c and it gets up to 65celsius under heavy load. Never hits 70c. Compare that to my 4870.... It idles at 58c and just hit 80c earlier.

I think I'm going to have to return this card(again). This time I won't be requesting a replacement, but rather a full refund. I feel bad about doing this. I like newegg as a company and I know they're eating the shipping/re-shipping costs for the returns. But I just can't have the 4870 overheating my whole system.

Mines an XFX 4870 1 gig. My room isn't all that hot either. It's winter time here in California so we're getting maybe 66 degrees or something at night.
