What CPU should I buy?

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs What CPU should I buy?

I want to buy a new desktop but I really can't decide what CPU to choose.

Intel or AMD? Core 2 Duo or i3?

I have 500 Euros and the computer will be for general use, but I also want to be able to play a couple of games (like Left 4 Dead for example).

I already, have monitor, mouse and keyboard.

So, what do you suggest?

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Are the 500 Euros only for CPU? or for all the system. I suggest to you the Athlon II X4 620, is a very good processor, and quad-core for only $99.99.

Or, you could cut out a core and get this, while it loses a core, it makes up for it in the greater speed of the other cores.

The CPU charts show that the Tri core gets 132FPS in L4D, while the Quad core get only 109FPS.

You forget that the processor that you recomend, is only the processor, don't have the heatsink.

Oops, my bad, got to stop posting on the forums at 3 AM :na:, did not see that there. Well, for only an extra $10, you could get this. Anyway, either processor is a good choice.

The 500 euros are not only for the CPU! I am not that reach!
By the way, what do you think about Athlon X2?
Does L2 Cache matter?

What do you think about Athlon II X2 240, 245, 250 and 255?
What is the difference between them?

Take a look of this comparation.

Athlon II X2 comparation

As you can see, the only difference is the operating frecuency. Except that frecuency, are the same.
