Hello All,

I'm in the process of building a new system. Just started piecing it together (bought a 955BE and asus M4A79XTD EVO to start today).

Anyway, In doing my research on picking a new vid card, I was looking at benchmarks and looked up my current card and setup (athlon 64 with a 512 mb 7600Gs). The gpu scored a 239 on the passmark g3d Mark. Pretty sad i guess. Then i looked at the card I had BEFORE that...a radeon x700 Pro (256mb). The radeon scored a 260!!

Was I a dunce 2 years ago or so when i swapped the radeon for the 7600? I think i got a deal at work and figured, what the hell....its twice the memory without otherwise thinking about it.

Am I reading the charts wrong or does this make sense?

Well the GeForce 7-Series competed with the X1XXX series, so the x700 Pro should be akin to something along the lines of a 6800GT. So comparing it to the 7600GS would be like the 3870 vs the 4670, a next-gen medium vs a last-gen high-end.
I'd say the 7600GS & x700 are about the same, however the 7600 probably supports a newer version of DirectX.

x700 was ATI mid range in the same generation that had geforce 6800GT high end

From a little research, both cards support DirectX 9.0 (version unspecified by charts), I would expect the 7600GS to be better.
I would expect the 7600GT to be more like the 6800GT, the technet review I found dealt with a 7600GT/GS comparison.

The 7600GT got great reviews on release, specially the fact that it equaled or bettered the previous generation high end cards 6800ULTRA in every thing.
