ASUS Rampage II Gene + 4gb Gskill Trident ddr3

Will I run into any problems with having 2x2gb Gskill memory on a mother board with the 6 slots?

(can get a good deal on this RAM - $80 or should I bump up to 6gb? on a tight budget and want to save money any way.)

Pairing it with an i7 920.

You really should go with 6gb of triple channel ram with the i7-9xx series.

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

U won't have any problem except that u will not take advantage of the tri-channel technology. A good tri-channel kit are this G.Skill 1600

With an exmaple is more easy explain that:

Let's take two kit of 1600 RAM, one is Dual channel and the other is tri channel.

Dual channel 1600: Rate transfer in byte/s: 25.6GB/s
Tri channel 1600: Rate transfer in bytes/s: 38.4GB/s

In other words, u get more rate transfer speed and more performance.
