Hi Anne,
It sounds like you have an 'image' disk rather than an 'OS' disk. If this is the case, you will have to have the disk replaced.
Most manufacturers will do a replacement for a nominal fee.
If your disk is an OS disk, does it tell you what file can't be extracted?
