What's the difference between a Caviar Black and a Caviar Blue?

And does anybody know why the price has jumped 30-50 dollars for WD hardrives on Newegg?

Looking to buy a new one and I've been happy with previous WD hardrives. Thanks for the Help guys.

Blue is for mainstream users.

Black is for enthusiasts. Higher performance while disregarding power usage.

The reason for price increases is due to the floods in Thailand, where WD manufacturers the drives.

I've read that in some countries/sites, prices have tripled (cannot confirm).

Here in Korea, prices have increased by ~$30-40 for basically ALL HDDs.

Wow! Its like a HDD pandemic! So does choosing between a black and blue caviar matter when it comes to gaming? I enjoy Civilization 5 and such. (I apologize if thats a dumb question, I'm building a home computer for the first time.)

Hope Thailand will be alright too.

For gaming, try to get the highest possible performance. I would recommend you get a Caviar Black.

For general storage, you can use Blue or Green HDDs.
