Well you might now be able to upgrade, your ability of this depends on your RAM, power supply, video card...etc
So to start off, give me full specs of all components in your computer, your OS. Also tell me what do you do with your computer and what applications you run, aswell as expectations for those applications being run, BE VERY SPECIFIC.

Sorry i completely for got to mention the other stuff i currently am running a gigabyte ep45-ud3p
775 board with a q9550 cpu
graphics card is a evga 285 gtx,
4 gigs of DDR2
power supply is antec 850 W
Running windows7
only reason for the upgrade is cause my bro is willing to take the board ram and the cpu off my hands if possible i was thinking of using some of the rest of my components power supply ect.
thanks again

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

Well, you can keep with the GPU (for now) and the PSU. If you change mobo and CPU you need DDR3 ram, so, you need at least $650 to upgrade your PC

Well, with an Intel configuration you can get this:

1- CPU: i5-750 $199.99

2- Mobo: ASUS Maximus III $194.99

3- RAM: G.Skill 2x2GB $139,99

Total: $ 589.97

P.D. For a i7, you need at least $800

With an AMD configuration, you can get this:

Hi again, you can read THIS article, is the comparation of the Phenom II X4, C2Q, i5 and i7.

The only difference between the X4 955 and X4 965 are 200MHz, but for the price of the X4 965 isn't a good deal.
