I cant' access internet on my laptop but it shows that it is connected

I’m using Microsoft windows XP, on my laptop. Previously i was connected to internet using the same laptop but now I can’t access the internet. It shows that I’m connected but I can't access the internet. My internet is working fine on my other laptop. Please help

Are the two laptops on a network or stand alone connections ?
Have you looked in networks from control panel for clues ?
Event viewer, or device manager errors showing anything ?
Have you installed new software / hardware recently ?
Have you tried windows restore to date when it connected ok ?
