Thanks for all your help.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: completed by summer 2010

BUDGET RANGE: 900 for GPU, CPU and motherboard

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Games [crysis, L4d2, America's Army], Video Editing, Longlasting [last for 3-4 years]

WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg

PARTS PREFERENCES: by brand or type (e.g.: I would like to use an AMD CPU & Biostar mobo with a 24" LCD and full tower case)

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe [have never done it before]
SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No [have had bad experiences]

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1440x900, maybe upgrading monitor

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

I already own the Case, PSU and harddrive. The PSU is 750 watts and the case is a coolmaster and it is massive.

I will have windows 7 on it

The motherboard should have multiple usb ports, a firewire port and a esata port on it. USB 3.0 would be a plus.

I want to have atleast a 3.0 ghz quad core processor.

I want this computer to last for 3-4 years, as I will not be buying a new one until then.

If you manage for find any of these in stock for around $600:

or any other brand 5970 for that matter
At about half the price, a 5850 is a good buy aswell. You could get 2 and crossfire them but you wouldn't equal the performance of the 5970
a single 5870 would get you more than a single 5850 but is $100 more.

Phenom II 955 for $165

If you want to spend a $20 more for phenom II 965 3.4 GHz you can. I wouldn't because I would be overclocking anyway.

Asus motherboard under $100.. Has esata but no firewire. no one uses firewire anyway though.

That'll run you some nice crysis.

That adds up to less than 900. However You didn't mention anything about ram? 4 GB of DDR3 ram will run you about $100.
