The strange case of the mutant IBM T40

Forum Laptops & Notebooks : General Discussion The strange case of the mutant IBM T40

Archived from groups: comp.sys.laptops (More info?)

I purchased a Thinkpad T40 (model 2373-8CG) on Saturday in Tottenham
Ct Rd - and a fabulous machine it is too, especially with a gig of RAM
in there.

However, the strange thing is that according to the model spec matrix
it should have had only 256M base memory (when it actually had 512M on
the system board already) and a 40G drive (when in fact the drive
appears to be 60G).

Has IBM quietly upgraded the spec. or something?. Just puzzled as I
can't match the actual machine specs up with IBM's documentation on
their web site. Model must be correct as IBM's diagnostic software
also reports this model info.

Interestingly I *thought* when purchasing it that Wifi was built in
which it is not (the reseller internal sticker indicates that it is).
I am not terribly bummed about this because I use the machine in my
music studio and one thing it's unlikely to ever do is meet up with
the internet if I can help it!. I'd much rather have the extra disk
capacity so it all comes out in the wash but still I am puzzled about
this mutant spec.
