hey all !!

em a newbie... i have c2d e6400 and i have installed a new cooler "http://www.pcpartscollection.com/avc77cococoh.html" but i didnt applied thermal paste and i was gettin 38c idle 56c on load, then i cleaned cpu n heatsink n applied new thermal paste 4 better conductivity but all i em gettin now is 36c idle and 52c on load.. i was gettin 34c with ma stock HSF... btw i applied the whole paste

Solution
Just looked at the cooler you linked and I have to agree with GhislainG - It is more a replacement for a stock cooler with a similar one than an improvement (the only advantage is the copper core but that is not going to make that much of a difference so the 3-4C temp improvement you got is probably about right !!)

the TIM is Shin-Etsu syringe came with 0.1gm n i applied the whole ammount.. if i have done a mistake then wot shud i do shud i clean the amount of tim spreaded all over the cpu chip from corners and left sum amount in the middle of the chip ?

You're the one who knows if a thin layer (thickness of a thin sheet of paper) was applied or not. Redoing it probably won't decrease temperatures that much. You provided temperatures, but how many degrees are they over ambient room temperature?

Edit: I checked the link to your cooler and I don't see how it can be much better than the stock cooler.

That cooler you have isn't good for overclocking. You could probably do some very light OCing, but that's it.

You'll want a better cooler before OCing. Check out some of the stickies for good aftermarket coolers.

if u didnt overclock yet, then i suggest you get a better cooler e.g - a thermalright true 120. the one your using is no different than the boxed/stock cooler. Get Arctic cooling MX-2 or 3 the cooler and then your all go for overclocking.

For a serious overclock, you will need better cooling. What you have is little better than the stock cooler. Here are three under $50 heatsinks that are pretty popular:
Sunbeam

Xigmatec Dark Knight
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233029

I've added this one, because it is starting to get really popular:
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

They all require a somewhat different approach to applying thermal compound.
Suggestions for applying thermal compound:

And they are pretty large, so they might not fit inside your case.

I can see how Viksy get to buy that cooler. It does make a great claim:
"Keep your CPU cool with this socket 775 copper core heat sink and fan. This socket 775 heat sink and fan supports socket 775 processors up to 3.8 GHz and features a 4-pin motherboard connector."
Just another dishonest seller...
